HomeGen - General Requirements

To join the HomeGen scheme, we need you to meet our general requirements which are listed below.

For microgeneration systems installed after 15th July 2009

To be eligible to join Good Energy HomeGen FiT:

  1. You need to be a Good Energy electricity supply customer. For more information click here
  2. Your generator must be under 30 kilowatts (kW) in size
  3. Your generating system must be a product that has been certified by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), including the inverter and metering equipment. You can find a list of all MCS certified product here
  4. Your generating system must be installed by an MCS certified installer. You can find a list of all MCS certified installers here
  5. Your generating system will need a total generation meter
  6. The installation of your generator must be completed and the generator commissioned

Your installer will register your system with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and will issue you with your MCS number. We need this number so we can sign you up to FiT. We will ask you to enter your MCS number when completing our HomeGen FiT sign-up form.

For microgeneration systems installed before 15th July 2009

  1. You need to be a Good Energy electricity supply customer. For more information click here.
  2. Your generators must be under 30 kilowatts (kW) in size
  3. Your system must be accredited by Ofgem under the Renewable Obligation.
    To be eligible to receive the Feed-in Tariff, you must have been granted Renewable Obligation (RO) accreditation and appear on Ofgem’s Renewable and CHP register.
  4. Your generating system will need a total generation meter

If your microgenerator was installed before 15th July 2009 and you did not submit an application for RO accreditation to Ofgem before 1st April 2010, you will not be eligible for the Feed-in Tariff.
